The Art of Relearning
A couple weeks ago I was at my denomination’s annual conference. The theme of the conference was “Metanoia,” which is a Greek word that means repentance. The biblical definition of repentance is to change your mind in your thinking as being against God’s ways, then turn around and understand that God’s ways are greater and better and seek to live according to His way. Metanoia is about falling in love with God and wanting to follow His plan, not ours.
This idea of Metanoia is very important because is helps us to un-learn what is not good and helpful for us, and to re-learn so that we can adapt to our changing times. It is not about changing the truth of God for the lies around us, but understanding the system that best works for us to live in this world. Designing a system that works well in the midst of the principles that God would have us to live by.
Metanoia is also about revealing our flaws and the flaws of how we are living. It is about keeping ourselves from getting stuck in that which is not moving us forward, and actually changing our ways so that we can move forward. It is about living in a way where God can and will bless us. It is about understanding that when we seek to change, we will often go backwards at first until we gain experience in this new way of living, which will ultimately help us to be more frutitful in our lives.
Let me coach you so that you can apply “metanoia” to your life and accomplish great things!
