Being Content in Life

Webster’s dictionary says the definition of “content” is to be in a state peaceful happiness. Understanding this definition, you realize that if you are not at peace or happy, then you can’t be content in your life. The truth is, there is much in life that can cause us to not be at peace or to not be happy. Life is full of struggles and conflict and sickness and hurt. Thus we struggle to find peace in our daily lives and go through many ups and downs of happiness and unhappiness.

In the Bible we are told in Philippians 4:12: “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” What a different idea of contentment. The Apostle Paul, who wrote this verse, was in prison when he wrote this. In the midst of his imprisonment, his struggle, he said he had learned to be content in any and every situation.

Is it really possible to be content in all circumstances? For those who know and follow Jesus the answer is yes. This is because contentment doesn’t come just in the good and happy times, but in finding sufficiency in Jesus. With Jesus we are given “peace” that surpasses understanding. With Jesus we have strength when we are weak. With Jesus we have perspective in times of confusion. With Jesus we know that all things will work out for the good. Let me help you discover this contentment in your life.
