Finding Your Way

If you have ever been lost you know that getting the right directions are important. These days you can use the GPS on your cell phone to guide you. Yet even the GPS can be wrong at times. There is an important truth in the Bible where it says to be content where you are and with what you have (Philippians 4:12). If you don’t learn how to be content in the present you will always be searching for that something that will make you content and never find contentment. If you aren’t able to be content you will struggle to find your way. Relationships can’t make you happy, they only enhance the happiness you already experience. Material things can be enjoyed, but they don’t bring happiness either, they just help you to enjoy the moment more.

While being content is important, it doesn’t mean that you can’t desire more. There is an important balance that you need to find between who you are now and who you want to become. There is a healthy way to accept what you have and be happy with it, but look for what God has for you next. You don’t seek to change to become happy, you seek change because that is what is good and right for you. You don’t move to something new with the hope that it will fulfill your desires, but rather you move forward to that which God calls you. What sustains you through it all is faith in the God who created you. What upholds you in the struggle is the truth that your life has meaning and purpose because God created you with meaning and purpose.

To find your way you must understand this core truth of your creation: you were created in the image of God to be in relationship with Him and to do the good works He calls you to do. When you come to accept this you will be at peace with your life. When you know this you are no longer lost. To move forward when you are lost you must understand where you are and where you are going. The where you are in life is that you are a child of God. This is how you can be content in the now. The where you are going is the plan and purpose God has for you. This is how you can be content in your future because God will lead you there. You have found your way when you realize that you are on the path that God has designed for you.

If you would like to understand this more let me walk with you in finding your way.
