Believing in Yourself

As a minister for 26+ years, and now as a coach, I have noticed that oftentimes people doubt what they are capable of doing. This can happen because of past discouragement from what people have said or from getting stuck in a routine where they don’t feel like they can break out. The old saying goes, “Sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never hurt you.” This saying is not true because words do wound deeply and can even cause a person to be paralyzed in a particular lifestyle.

Self-talk is one way that people try to lift themselves up to help them believe that they are capable. What is self-talk? It is listening to the voice within you and training it to speak encouraging and positive messages to you. The thought is that this “self-talk” will change the way you think about yourself and believe in yourself so that you can move forward and reach the goals you desire. It is meant to be a monologue that speaks to you throughout the day so that you can overcome any negative thoughts or frustrations.

As a coach I believe that understanding that you are created in the image of God and that this God desires for you to do good things is a more powerful encourager for people. When you know that you were not only created wonderful, but that Jesus Christ died on the cross so that you could be empowered to live into the passion that He gives to you, then all things are indeed possible. Let’s work together on not only believing in yourself, but in the plans God has for you.
